Front Yard Transformation in The Harvest – Chaska, MN
In Chaska’s growing community of The Harvest, this newly built home had a blank-slate front yard with untapped potential. The homeowners wanted more than basic builder-grade landscaping — they envisioned a welcoming, thoughtfully designed space that added beauty, privacy, and functionality.
The Goal
The project focused on three primary objectives:
- Enhance the curb appeal with layered, seasonal color
- Create a natural visual screen to soften and block the view of the neighboring home
- Install a durable, dry pathway connecting the deck to the concrete patio
Our design approach balanced structure and softness — combining upright screening trees with flowing perennials and natural stone elements for a landscape that feels established and intentional.
The Planting Design
To create depth, texture, and long-season interest, we selected a curated mix of hardy, regionally appropriate plants:
- Purple ‘Caradonna’ Salvia for vertical accents and vibrant summer color
- Bobo® Hydrangeas for full, white blooms that transition beautifully through the season
- Variegated Iris with soft light purple flowers and striking foliage contrast
- Sedum featuring tidy, rounded foliage and rich red fall blooms
- Upright Arborvitae and Columnar Oak to establish privacy and architectural structure
Together, these plantings create movement, seasonal progression, and year-round presence — while naturally screening the neighboring view.
Natural Stone Pathway
To ensure a solid, mud-free connection between outdoor living spaces, we installed a custom pathway using regionally sourced limestone flagstone, bordered with complementary limestone for a clean, finished edge.
The surrounding decorative stone is locally sourced Dresser rock, adding texture and contrast while tying the landscape into Minnesota’s natural palette.
The Result
The once-plain front yard is now a layered, welcoming landscape that enhances curb appeal, improves privacy, and provides practical outdoor flow. The combination of structured trees, vibrant perennials, and natural stone creates a space that feels cohesive, mature, and built to last.
